I started working with this family when the child was 2.5. I remembered the tough first few months. Without any language and means to communicate, crying and tantrums became this little boy's solution. Working closely with his family, we taught the boy to talk, use the toilet (toilet training), eat properly during meal time, and play with his sister and friends. Later on, we taught him to read and write. I still remember how he loved to read. His favorite book was "Henry and Mudge and the Sneaky Crackers". Every time when we read the part about crackers (meaning cracking the code in the story), he would laugh historically. It was like that was the funniest thing on earth for him. And for me, seeing him laugh was the most rewarding thing on earth. When I left Canada, this little boy was already 6. I miss every minute that we spent together. I miss all my other families and children as well.
Hope all is well for you all!
