DISTINCTIVE LEARNING SOCIETY: “Open the Heart of the Children – Training for Professional Volunteers with Practice Plan”

P.L.A.I.'s clinical consultant, Dianna Yip, was invited to be the advisor for child behaviour intervention for Distinctive Learning Society. Distinctive Learning Society is a non-profit organization specialized in training and organizing volunteers to provide volunteer services for local schools and organization. In the effort of providing high quality volunteer services, Distinctive Learning Society has started a certification course to provide more intense training for a small group of volunteers. This course includes both coursework via lectures and videos and supervised practicum hours. P.L.A.I. is proud to be part of this meaningful project. We had provided 12 hours of lectures and supervisions to this group of passionate and dedicated volunteers. We will also continue to support these volunteers throughout the school year.

Kidsquare Parenting Course

Our founder, Dianna, accepts the invitation from Kidsquare to be one of their expert advisors and to be the guest speaker for one of their parenting classes. In this class, Dianna focused on positive and proactive strategies to increase child compliance and to deal with children's problem behaviours.

New Zealand ABA Conference @ Wellington

New Zealand Association for Behaviour Analysis (NZABA) held its annual conference on September 1 & 2 in Wellington New Zealand this year. As part of the Asian Pacific community, Dianna went to Wellington as a presenter and a participant of the conference. Her goal was to share her experiences and knowledge with more professionals as well as to bring the latest news in the field of ABA to the Hong Kong community.
This year, Dianna presented on two topics:
(1) Respect. Listen. Learn. A Culturally Sensitive Approach to Supporting Families using ABA
Serving families of all backgrounds with ways that best fit their needs is a passion of Dianna's and also the mission of P.L.A.I. Dianna would like to take this chance to share her international experiences of supporting families of different cultures.
(2) The Use of PBS for Diminishing Problematic Behaviour and Increasing Positive Behaviour
Dianna will be working with Elyssa McKee, a BCBA from Australia, to present on the topic of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Their goal is to bring PBS to New Zealand and Australia.

Dianna was invited by HKIE to be a guest lecturer in Shen Zhen for the advanced course for the nation's special needs teachers. Teachers from all over China, including Beijing, Wenzhou, etc. attended this course. Dianna shared her knowledge and experiences in ABA and PBS in Mandarin in her 2-day lectures!

Dianna worked with parent coach, Lee, to hold a talk/ sharing session for parents who have children with developmental disabilities or serious behaviour problems and others who are involved with these children. All parents need to deal with their children's problem behaviours from time to time. Yet, many parents with children with developmental disabilities and serious behaviour problem may need to deal with more intense problem behaviours a few times a day. In this talk, we discussed ways to effectively address challenging behaviours. Through sharing and discussion, participants gained insight and a different perspective in viewing their children's behaviour.
